Welcome

Click here for some hints, if you are new to this type of environment

We are using this social network site to gather and share input from the greater SoL community about the organizational evolution that is emerging. The Founding SoL Council requested that nine of us create a transformation process to address social, legal, economic infrastructure needed for the community to achieve its purpose.

You will find both updates of the process and opportunities to participate in and initiate conversations about the process on this site.  Almost every page offers you the chance to comment because we want to know what you think.

You can choose to just to browse and see what is happening in the process

You can contribute in a number of ways by joining the site. From the links to the various pages above, beginning with Home (which is where you are now) there is: Conversations/Forums to share your thoughts and ideas on topics of current importance
Blogs Post to discover what some thought leaders are saying and add to the thinking
Learn more about The Plan (evolution process) & the networks of SoL and add your thinking

Create you own group any member is invited to create a group of your own.

Your continuous participation is vital.

Enhancing Community

With over 400 members this is one of the largest gatherings of the SoL community and I dream it will become the most active. One key element of SoL is the ‘safe container’ to explore new ideas and develop existing ones. I ask each of you to consider how we can better collaborate and support each other here.

I created this site last spring with the express purpose to explore our ‘organizational evolution’. The site obviously struck a chord with many of you beyond the original intent. I continue to see more ‘groups’ forming (see right hand column or group tab) and I think it is wonderful. Groups provide space for you to carry out discussions and explorations of specific questions that may interest a subset of members with whom you are particularly close.

The chat option did not seem to go anywhere so I’ve dropped it. Let me know if you would like it back. This is an experimental website so I am willing to explore any suggestions that you have.

I hope this site ignites our passion in 2010 as we listen and learn together.

The New Haiti Project

We have something very special that I and several friends helped a young leader in Haiti to get started. It is called the New Haiti Project. You can also read more about it on the webpage, which we are still finishing up. I am sure everyone would be very interested in getting involved. Possibly, we would refer to this as SoL in Haiti. Web 2.0 technologies used with peop… Continue

"Structure" for evolution - what could it be?

Hello,

Not sure whether I am way off with what I have learned just a few minutes ago. However I would like to share what a friend from Düsseldorf has just sent me while we were chatting via Skype about singularity and futurism.

Education and Reform

Let's have a discussion about education. The federal government is in a race to the top" and states are scrambling for cash. But are we getting too narrow a view of what schools should be for children?

Schools are about the promise of living. They are not about organizational structures, power, procedures or management. They are about living, fully and completely, with the heart as well as the head, physically as well as intellectually, and intuitively as well as well as logically. Schools are n… Continue

If we want to become expert leaders, what should we become expert at?

While conducting a recent workshop on innovattion I was reminded about the pitfalls of thinking that as leaders or managers we have to be experts. Leading is not about “getting it right” every time.

I started writing about this at my blog. Would appreciate you reading and providing your thoughts or questions.

An update as of 30 December

At the moment there are 417 members of the group and growing. I hope all of us find ways to contribute to global SoL's evolution. Things on this site have been a little quiet recently for several reasons while the work of SoL and SoL communities continues to thrive.
The work on the organization of global SoL continues with the group of 25 consolidating many ideas and preparing to communicate them to the community. This communication centers on articulating our principles and purpose along with the ongoing conversation about our future together.

Once again, I invite you to help me host the site. I would love for someone (or several someones) to help host and keep the site active. With several of us working either together or in series hopefully we can regenerate our energy.

I’m glad that as a group we continue to grow and conversations continue. I encourage you to start any discussions that will be of interest to you and your work. I see several new conversations appearing. I encourage a variety of people to respond to any and all conversations.

Best Regards,
Alfred
